Approximately 50 cars have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they announced in a release.
Police say they were contacted during the night on Wednesday night, when a individual observed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish fluid.
The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then located many other smeared cars and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under laws banning the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials say preliminary tests suggest the liquid was probably blood from a person.
"Currently there is no indication as to its source; authorities are not yet aware of any injuries in relation with the event," they commented.
Local authorities announced they were working "to solve the incident" and have requested to the public for details.
A high-ranking political figure commented the attack made him without words and had to be resolved promptly.
"This incident hits the core of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he wrote on social media, recalling the murder of nine people by a gunman targeting residents of migrant background in 2020.
